If you have no option for Sharing, then you haven't got File and Print sharing switched on. If that option isn't even there, click install select Service select File and Print Sharing, and install it.
You will need your MS Windodws disk. File and print sharing is on, I can share the drive, I can even share other folders with the exception of Program Files and Windows. I don't care about the Windows folder, but I am betting this is related. All the users are members of Administrators. Try this See if you can share it. I know these solutions are not secure, but if we can issolate the problem you are having, then we can fingure out a way around it.
Most times you have the option when installing to change the default to another location. Just a thought To change the name of your folder on the network, type a new name for your folder in the Share name text box.
This will not change the name of the folder on your computer. To allow other users to change the files in your shared folder, select the Allow other users to change my files check box. If you are logged on as a Guest, you cannot create a shared folder. In addition, you cannot share folders in other user's profiles.
I remember reading that in the Microsoft knowledge base articles. Guess I didn't read far enough along. I kind-of figured that. Thanks Bo Kentucky phone support- "Mash the Kentrol key and hit scape. I guess I'm just annoyed that something I took for granted in 98 has been removed from XP And to limit access, both computers are running a software firewall, and behind a router with a hardware firewall. The router's firewall doesn't intefere with file sharing, but ZoneAlarm Pro did. I sorted that quickly by adding the other computer as a Trusted IP on each machine.. Program Files is the only one I'm interested in accessing though. Both computers are in the same subnet, and workgroup. That quote from Microsoft is not correct. I just shared the Program Files directory and it works just fine. I can share it With simple file sharing disabled , but can't access it.
I'd rather not have to change the username on the other computer as it isn't primarily mine, but it looks like the only way. As Seen On. Welcome to Tech Support Guy! Latest posts H. Screen black when power supply is unplugged 6 Viewers Latest: harleyrider22 16 minutes ago. M 23 minutes ago.

Programs typically need installed on the PC they are run on. Certain programs offer network support, but usually that means they share one data file. You could try using a program like PC Anywhere to remotely control the PC that has the app installed.
